 The children’s literature selections were chosen to supplement th
 e Writing Minilessons  in Writing for Readers (Kindergarten Unit 2\, Narr
 ative) and A Guide to the Writing Workshop\, Primary Grades.  Suggestions
  for each of the Mentor Texts are integrated into the Minilessons.
  
 
 Page numbers for Writing for Readers are included for ease of locating the
  writing concepts and skills and the relevant portions of the lesson. Inst
 ruction reflects the transition of the youngest writers as they move from 
 pictures and labels to sentences.
  
 Sessions that address foundationa
 l skills (such as expanding from picture labels to writing complete senten
 ces) are not included in this document.
