  has selected one of her favorite mentor texts for kindergarten that build
  character and support school climate.  Our students’ ability to unders
 tand and manage their emotions and impulses promotes learning. Many young 
 students begin school without the knowledge to recognize\, name\, and mana
 ge their emotions. Characters in stories help them acquire these important
  life skills. Knowing what to do instead of disruption allows children to 
 actively participate in learning.

 h Understanding and Empathy are important Habits of Mind that even the you
 ngest students can acquire with support and repeated practice.

 we pause to think about our emotions and actions\, we can make wise choice
 s about how to act\, it illustrates other Positive Traits. Remaining calm\
 , finding ways to reach our goals\, working with others to achieve the com
 mon good\, and responsible-decision making are just a few.  When Superher
 oes and everyday heroes (teachers and students) act responsibly\, they mak
 e the world better.
