These CODE courses are designed to illustrate
different levels of student progress on three types of writing: opinion/a
 rgumentative (T.T.3.c)\, expository (T.T.2.d)\, and narrative (T.T.1.e). U
nderstanding these different levels is useful in at least two ways. First\
, it helps us see where students might be atdifferent time points in the s
chool year. Second\, it helps us score our own students’ writing with gr
eater accuracy and consistency. For each grade level\, there are three CODE
courses—one for opinion/argumentative writing\, one for expository writ
ing\, and one for narrative writing. Each of the three courses is a video o
 f approximately 10-15 minutes.
                      Each vide
 o features the following:
 ● A focus on four color-coded student exempl
ars\, each illustrating different levels of progress onthe writing standar
 d. These provide an index of where students might be at different timepoin
ts in the school year.● An application exercise\, where you can score th
ree additional exemplars and compare yourscores to scores my team and I pr
ovided. This application exercise can be useful in promotinggreater accura
cy and consistency in your own scoring. We also provide a slide deck for ea
ch grade level\, which includes the exemplars featured in the videos\,as w
ell as links to the rubrics used and a few related instructional resources
.Simply use the links to access these materials.
