Attention Nurses and Leaders,

Please see the information about the nationwide “unwinding” or recertification process of Medicaid coverage.  This recertification process was put on hold for three years during the pandemic.  Because of the enormous reach of this effort, it can potentially cause millions of our families to lose their coverage.  Please share the resources as appropriate within your schools and districts to reach the parents to make them aware of this.

Medicaid Unwinding Information for Families

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) in March 2020. Under the FFCRA, Georgia Medicaid members have been eligible for pandemic-era protections during the federal public health emergency. Due to recent changes at the federal level, Georgia is required to redetermine eligibility for approximately 2.7 million Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids® members. Every Georgia Medicaid member must respond to requests for required information in a timely manner.

Please review the following information and resources to determine how you can assist in providing information to families within your school district to ensure they are prepared for eligibility checks. We encourage you to seek creative ways to share this information with parents and families to ensure the continuity of healthcare coverage for Georgia’s children – consider emailing or robocalling parents and caregivers with information or including applicable materials in parent information packets.
