Compare and Contrast is an instructional strategy that can be used at all grade levels and in all content areas.  This is an electronic version of the training that was offered through Georgia's Critical Thinking Skills program first issued in the 1990s.  The Compare and Contrast Strategy has the rationale for using the strategy, model lessons, sample lessons, processing activities, and variations for use in different content areas.  It also includes a variety of visual organizers and took box activities to actively engage students to participate in class.  Instructions are included for Kindling, Survey, Boggle, and Give One-Get one.

A touch-screen instructional math resource for every 3-8 classroom, teachers select tasks that are as engaging as they are rigorous. Organized by math concepts, Math in the Fast Lane is a research-based instructional framework that builds success in ALL students. Within the MFL framework, teachers utilize resources to build dynamic, 100% engagement lessons.

Illustrates the benefits of designing mathematics instruction to provide multilingual students opportunities to use language to express their ideas and co-construct ideas with others.

This session gives math teachers information on linear equations and graphs.  It has teaching examples and practices.  Teachers can use this information to learn more about how to teach linear equations and graphing, or they can use the information to demonstrate how another teacher teaches the topic.  Google Forms have been added to the folder.

The District Leaders Pre-Conference provides an opportunity for district leaders to review and discuss the new Georgia Mathematics Standards, engage in purposeful work to plan for the implementation of the new standards, and network with other district leaders.

  There are 8 recorded sessions for each grade level on various topics. There is a visual that displays all sessions for K-8th, Algebra I, Advanced Algebra, Coordinate Algebra, Geometry, and Analytic Geometry . Playlist links have also been included for each grade level for easy navigation. The playlists will note the length of each video. Please note that these were done in FY21 which means there may be areas that will have to be moved, adapted, etc. to connect to new standards which will be tested in FY23..

The Inductive Learning Strategy is an instructional strategy that promotes  thinking.  The strategy can be viewed as a framework that can be varied based on the content, outcomes to be measured, operations to be performed, and the needs of the students.  This is part of a series of guides for Georgia's Critical Thinking Skills program that was developed in 1994.  This strategy is appropriate for all grade levels and all content areas.  Inductive thinking is a natural process in which the mind observes phenomena, compares and contrasts attributes, and groups and labels data in order to form generalizations, make predictions, or form and test hypotheses.

The materials consist of a VoiceThread, handouts, and sample and model lessons.

 GDOE math leaders conducted an online, live Numeracy Project Training on August 17 and 18, 2021. Day 1 addressed understanding and administering diagnostic assessments, and Day 2 addressed using diagnostic assessment data.

The Mystery/Inquiry  is actually two  instructional strategies that promotes  thinking.  These strategies can be viewed as a framework that can be varied based on the content, outcomes to be measured, operations to be performed, and the needs of the students.  This is part of a series of guides for Georgia's Critical Thinking Skills program that was developed in 1994.  They are  appropriate for all grade levels and all content areas.  In both strategies, there is an event, evidence, explanation, and evaluation.  In inquiry teaching, the teacher presents the event and students formulate possible explanations,

The materials consist of a VoiceThread, handouts, and sample and model lessons.

The presenter provides an overview on Number Talks. Processes and activities can be adapted for middle and high. The video is approximately 18 minutes in length.

Dr. Gordon uses the  book This Is Disciplinary Literacy: Reading, Writing, Thinking, and Doing Content Area by Content Area by Releah Cossett Lent as a basis for a VoiceThread on using/teaching reading and writing in disciplines other than English/Language Arts.  Students learn academic content, problem solving, and critical thinking by engaging in the practices of the discipline (science, social studies, mathematics). Students learn and experience the work of each discipline. This work includes the core academic content, skills, norms, and communication tools (reading, writing, and speaking).  She also includes a PowerPoint on Unlocking the Power of Classroom Talk.
