Skills such as effective communication, sharing, teamwork, empathy, respect, generosity, and building relationships help develop and maintain relationships.

Mary shares blueberries with Mrs Bishop. She is so delighted by the unexpected gift that she bakes blueberry muffins to share with five people. These five people are so happy to receive an unexpected gift that they share kindness, time, and talents with five more people, who share with five more, and on and on. Through this story, we learn that simple acts of kindness inspire others to be generous. Its a bonus that we also learn about cause and effect. The book celebrates acts of generosity for the benefit of others.

Heart of Georgia RESA teachers may request a free copy of the book to use with their classes by listening to the short VoiceThread about the book, reading a brief handout that includes the ELA standards and suggested strategies for using the mentor text, and completing a request form.
