Cognitive Regulation refers to intentional, strategic, and self-regulated learning. It includes the abilities 1) to determine what is needed to compete a task, 2) to maintain attention and redirect it when it’s lost, 3) to commit to a goal and monitor progress along the way, 4) to identify problems and evaluate solutions, 5) to think about alternatives and choose one when making a decision, 6) to seek and offer help, and 7) to become and remain organized.
Meaningful, lasting success comes through hard work and is measured by our personal best; it is neither instant nor defined by trophies and having the “most stuff.” This is the wisdom Inch and Miles learn from famed basketball coach John Wooden. Inch and Miles meet 14 helpful creatures, each one with a lesson on what it takes to reach the top of the Pyramid of Success, their personal best. The book is about achieving a goal, problem-solving and help seeking. (A Planning Note: Decide if you will read the entire book or selected portions.
