This workshop provides a guide for school districts to enhance their cybersecurity posture. It emphasizes the importance of cybersecurity awareness, using examples like how a well-trained employee can prevent breaches by spotting phishing emails. The workshop also includes a case study of Delta Airlines, which experienced disruptions due to a scheduling software failure, highlighting the need for thorough incident response planning.

“The Cybersecurity Journey" is highlighted as a roadmap for school district organizations to move from reactive to proactive cybersecurity approaches, emphasizing risk assessment and framework implementation. Unique challenges faced by school districts such as complex IT environments, budget constraints, compliance
mandates, and political pressure, are also addressed.

The workshop outlines steps for the cybersecurity journey, starting with an initial security risk assessment to identify vulnerabilities and align security goals with organizational objectives. It covers implementing structured cybersecurity frameworks like NIST CSF and CIS CSC to manage risks and build resilience. Proactive measures like vulnerability management and penetration testing are essential for identifying and addressing security weaknesses before they can be exploited.

Finally, the workshop emphasizes the importance of continuous monitoring and improvement to maintain a strong security posture.

Participants will be provided access to an e-Book that details steps to start their
cybersecurity journey.
