The purpose of this training program is to help participants be more successful as substitute teachers; therefore, meeting the requirement of the Georgia Board of Education (Code: GBRJ). Participants will be exposed to the rudiments of professional ethics, classroom management, instructional techniques, and some basic curriculum content. Participants will receive suggestions regarding "do's and don'ts" when substituting and activities to use when the classroom teacher's lesson plans cannot be followed.
An online, virtual model has been developed and will be available on specific, scheduled dates. Participants must use the link to access the training on the scheduled date and during the specific time span. Participants are expected to access the link at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time to verify that the technology is working from his or home site. There will be accountability measures embedded, so please read the instructions carefully upon registering online. You will not be issued credit for the class until you have paid for the class. Pre-Step: Go by your Board of Education and inquire about requirements. Discuss voucher form and fingerprinting requirements.
Important Reminder: Completing the substitute teacher training program does NOT qualify you to substitute. You must meet local requirements and local board approval.
Step 1: Register online via the HGRESA Professional Learning page.
Step 2: Mail money order ($35) to HGRESA, 717 Smith Street, Dublin, GA 31021 (Attention: Substitute Teacher Training, Online Virtual Class)
Step 3: Access the link that you have been provided in the instructions.
Step 4: Participants may have to download an app for the Zoom meeting to occur, so please test drive the link a few days before the scheduled meeting. Ask someone for help if you are unsure how to Zoom. On the scheduled date and 15 minutes before the scheduled time, click on the link. You will be asked to input info like your name or email and then you can join the meeting. You can choose to turn your web camera off or on. However, be familiar with the chat box and the microphone. When the presenter is talking, please make sure to mute your microphone. You can raise your hand if you want to ask a question.
Step 5: Participate in the assessment at the end. Number your paper from 1 to 20 and answer the questions. Check your answers as the presenter provides the answer. Please make sure that you understand any questions that you may have missed. Please ask questions, if needed, to clarify the answers.
