The children’s literature selections were chosen to supplement the Writing Minilessons  in Writing for Readers (Kindergarten Unit 2, Narrative) and A Guide to the Writing Workshop, Primary Grades.  Suggestions for each of the Mentor Texts are integrated into the Minilessons.

 

Page numbers for Writing for Readers are included for ease of locating the writing concepts and skills and the relevant portions of the lesson. Instruction reflects the transition of the youngest writers as they move from pictures and labels to sentences.

 

Sessions that address foundational skills (such as expanding from picture labels to writing complete sentences) are not included in this document.
