2777, Resource, Georgia Tech, GT Observatory Aloha Telescope: Remote Viewings for K12 Classrooms!

The GT Observatory offers schools a unique opportunity to view the Moon and other objects in the night sky – while during the school day! Through remote control and viewing with the Aloha Telescope, students can experience a live viewing using a telescope from their classrooms. Located in Maui, the Aloha Telescope offers schools the unique opportunity of telescope viewing during the day time. Depending upon viewing conditions, objects such as the Moon, planets and their moons in our solar system, as well as more distant objects are viewable using the Aloha Telescope. In addition, participating students from learn from GT Observatory Director, Dr. Jim Sowell, about the solar system, space, galaxies, and other topics based upon the participating grade level(s).

In-Person For schools in the Atlanta area, the GT Observatory can come to you! Schools can request this viewing session using the form linked below. Please provide as much information as possible to help us coordinate a session that makes the most sense for your students given their grade level and prior knowledge.

Virtual The GT Observatory has partnered with STEM@GTRI’s Direct to Discovery program to offer virtual viewing sessions that can be offered remotely to classrooms. These sessions still offer the interactivity and ability for remote control of the telescope, but allow for schools beyond the Atlanta area to participate in this exciting opportunity!

Viewing Conditions The optimal viewing window is from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM ET. Specific viewing conditions and school considerations will dictate the final scheduling of any session.
