This VoiceThread has an instructional focus, about using literature to support students with the Mental Health disorders, others who are living in difficult situations and experience emotional and psychological stressors, and to help the more general student population respond with compassion to their peers and/or family members who are struggling.  There will be a list of helpful texts provided, but there will be no books available from HGRESA for this project.

Research indicates that writing about reading supports comprehension. Join Joan Sedita, founder of Keys to Literacy, as she presents practical suggestions for structured, explicit teaching of strategies for writing about text in any subject across grades 3 to 12. Several strategies will be addressed including summarizing, personal response to narrative text, and writing from informational sources."

Dr. Susan Hall of the 95% Group conducts 3 webinars using David Kilpatrick's book, Essentials of Assessing, Preventing, and Overcoming Reading Difficulties. The webinars are around 30 minutes each. There is a free phoneme substitution screener that can be requested.

 Achieve the Core has compiled a series of modules to help teachers understand the importance of foundational skills in teaching reading. Strategies, resources, research, etc. are presented to assist in building the knowledge base. After going through the modules and reviewing the listed resources, participants may want to delve deeper into the Achieve the Core website for additional links.

  There are 8 recorded sessions for each grade level on various topics. There is a visual that displays all sessions for K-8th, Algebra I, Advanced Algebra, Coordinate Algebra, Geometry, and Analytic Geometry . Playlist links have also been included for each grade level for easy navigation. The playlists will note the length of each video. Please note that these were done in FY21 which means there may be areas that will have to be moved, adapted, etc. to connect to new standards which will be tested in FY23..
